Trewarthenick
Trewarthenick is a large 2500-acre private estate nestled in the heart of Cornwall. It comprises of 5 farms, 750 acres of untouched woodland, and a lake land area of SSSI status. There are no other managed bee colonies in this area.
I was given opportunity to install an Eco Tree Hive in May 2020. This populated very quickly and soon led to the discovery of a further 2 wild colonies in the estate, one in the split of an Ash Tree and the other in the roof space of a cottage.
The estate plans to create a special wildlife environment with nature walks. This long-term project will also include the re wilding of honey bees. Over the next few years the idea will be to carefully integrate tree hives into the woodland areas and create a natural bee habitat devoid from human intervention.
