The project provides evidence of the occurrence of wild honey bee colonies in Switzerland based on facts. This proves that the honeybee is not extinct in nature, as beekeepers and authorities believe. Through Swiss BeeMapping, the existence of this wild bee species is to be accepted scientifically and by the authorities. The project focuses on gathering facts and knowledge through the active participation of beekeepers, foresters, fire brigade and interested parties. In the long term it aims to protect and promote the wild honey bee. The project is characterised by the fact that, in a first phase as a Citizen Science Project, it is collecting data which, in a second phase, will be used by the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) for scientific biodiversity
