I still don't know what was happening here...two days in a row in late July I witnessed this frenetic drones attraction to that specific hive. It is my only wild hive as the bees chose to inhabit it three years ago. I added another box underneath last year and left them...not completely undisturbed...as sometimes I open the top and look inside to see the wonderful patterns of their comb body...
I wonder how they have built deeper inside! I'll get a camera and peep in some sunny day in Spring...
