This bee tree was discovered during the summer solstice of 2014 in an old carob tree (Ceratonia Siliqua). These trees often hollow out when they grow old, and this is perfect for bees.
The colony location was at the bottom of the trunk and the entrance at the very bottom on the earth surface. The tiny knot holes in both of the east and west facing branches where used for thermo regulation by fanning bees during the hot days in Portugal. It looked like this tree was a guardian of the beautiful coastal landscape. This tree with its inhabitants merged to a new organism; a bee tree be(e)ing.
