Free Living

The honey bees have been living in the cavity of a beech tree in a forest since about 2017. A branch of the beech tree broke off. The branch may have broken off due to fungus inside the trunk of the tree and/or termites. Part of the branch still exists, casting a shadow on the cavity, which seems to reduce the amount of rain entering the cavity. The cavity is 12.5m off the ground. The entrance to the cavity is oblong in shape, with very approximate dimensions of 20cm wide by 30cm in height.
